Council Highlights September 13, 2022

Area Structure Plan Amendments – Amendments for several Hamlet Area Structure Plans (ASP) are needed for them to comply with Land Use Bylaw (LUB) 09.21. These changes include updated map information, and the removal of policies that are now addressed in the current Land Use Bylaw, such as manufactured homes and obsolete zoning districts.
• Evansburg ASP (Bylaw 08.22 amends Bylaw 12.03)
• Wildwood ASP (Bylaw 11.22 amends Bylaw 09.05 and amending Bylaw 16.18)
• Peers ASP (Bylaw 09.22 amends Bylaw 02.17)
• Edson West ASP (Bylaw 07.22 amends Bylaw 05.21)
• Robb Area ASP (Bylaw 10.22 updates Bylaw 07.20)
• Cadomin Area ASP (Bylaw 05.22 amends Bylaw 09.12)
Council gave first reading to the proposed bylaws. A Public Hearing for each bylaw will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 9:30 AM.
Chetamon Wildfire in Jasper – Council received an update regarding the Chetamon Wildfire located in Jasper National Park. General Manager of Protective Services, Albert Bahri, reported that Yellowhead County Fire Department had deployed sprinklers and other apparatus to Brule and other West Yellowhead County areas as a precautionary measure in case the wildfire continued north towards Yellowhead County. Bahri reported that the threat to county residences and other infrastructure had subsided significantly due to the firefighting efforts in the park.
2023 Interim Budget and Council Infrastructure Tour – Under the MGA, Council must adopt a budget prior to January 1, 2023. Council budget deliberation dates are November 14, 21, and December 5. On September 22 (East) and September 29 (West), Council will be visiting county buildings, infrastructure, and other areas in the county to get an overview of current and upcoming county projects, updates on county road conditions, and county infrastructure and other areas of interest related the budgeting process and council strategic priorities prior to budget deliberations.
Grave Flats Road Bridge Replacement – The Cardinal Divide Road Bridge is scheduled to be closed for construction from September 15 to October 15, 2022. A bailey bridge will be installed on the bridge on Grave Flats Road that will allow recreational traffic to safely cross the Cardinal River tributary at this location.
