Athabasca Watershed Presentation
Council was given an overview of the Athabasca Watershed Council’s plans and projects including the Healthy Shorelines Initiative, local river data and statistics, and activities in partnership with Yellowhead County’s Agricultural Services Department.
STARS Presentation
The STARS Senior Municipal Relations Liaison presented Council with details on their existing and new services, STARS municipal partners, STARS activity within Yellowhead County, and the benefits that STARS receives from municipal funding. Council requested that that 21K request be added to the 2026 budget deliberations.
Tipple Park Museum & Library Amalgamation
An update on the Evansburg museum and library amalgamation was presented to Council. It included floor plans, projected increased project costs, and needs and requirements for the two stakeholder groups. Two options for construction schedules were presented and Council directed Administration to complete construction drawings and tender package in 2025, with a tender release for the project in 2026.
Hinton-Jasper Airport Lease
Council directed Administration to prepare a two-year lease with Jasper-Hinton Air for a 12’x 12′ office space at the Hinton-Jasper Airport for the annual value of $7,800.
Purchase of Graders
Yellowhead County will purchase two CAT 150 (AWD) motor graders at the combined price of $1,240,000 to replace two current graders that have reached the end of their life based on the County’s replacement schedule. The amount is below the budgeted amount and meets the County’s specifications for grader purchases.
Land Purchase
Eight motions were approved by Council towards the purchase of land from the province in Yellowhead County. The eight motions fulfill conditions stipulated by the Government of Alberta that include the County’s commitment to minimizing potential development impacts to adjacent land, landowners, and other stakeholders. Wild Boar
A presentation was made by Angela Pauls at the June 17, 2025 GPC meeting requesting an exception to the County’s Animal Control Bylaw to allow the owner to keep a wild boar at her property following an order to remove the wild boar from her property. Council directed Administration to uphold the order and changing the wording to give the owner six months to remove the animal.
Council Remuneration
Council reviewed and adopted the current Council Remuneration Policy with no changes to the rates and benefits for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors. Council conducts a review every four years prior to the scheduled municipal election. Rates for other municipalities was included as part of the review.
