Council Highlights April 27, 2021

Weed/Pest Inspectors Appointed – Sixteen municipal inspectors have been appointed by Council under Alberta’s Agricultural Pest and the Weed Control Acts. The inspectors will be cross-trained in both acts to deliver key services throughout the growing season throughout Yellowhead County.

Parks Bylaw Update – Council adopted Parks Bylaw 08.21 that updated the closure of Riverside Campground. The bylaw also includes new regulations regarding cannabis use in County parks and campgrounds, including rules specific to the transportation, consumption and odour effects of cannabis.

Robb Tower Construction – Council award the tender for the YH-19 Robb Communication Tower build to Turris Contractors Inc. for $680,500.00. This contract amount is for the tower’s construction and is included in the 2021 budget.

Letter to Minister – A letter from Yellowhead County Council will be sent to Minister Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks, with copies to Members of Legislative Assembly Long and Getson. The letter addresses safety, environmental, and legal concerns of off-highway vehicle use and random camping within Yellowhead County.

Wildwood UFA Development – Council approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a new UFA site that includes new public roadway development and water service. The agreement clarifies the costs and responsibilities for both the municipal and UFA portion of the proposed site development.

Council Summer Schedule – The June 8, July 13, and August 10 meetings have been cancelled for the 2021 Council summer schedule.
