Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund Supports YCE Multiplex Project

Grant funding to support essential elements of new state-of-the-art recreation complex

EDSON, Alberta, Dec. 16, 2025 — The Town of Edson, on behalf of the YCE Multiplex Project, received a $50,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. The project is a joint initiative between the Town of Edson and Yellowhead County to renovate and expand the Edson and District Leisure Centre into a state-of-the-art recreation complex. The upgraded facility will feature a new aquatics center, a new gymnasium with an elevated walking track, and a new arena, as well as renovations to Centennial Arena and a curling facility in Memorial Arena. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2027.
The grant funding will be used to support essential elements that enhance the facility’s role as a civic and cultural anchor, such as gathering areas, interpretive displays, public art installations or flexible event space infrastructure.

“Weyerhaeuser is an important part of our community, and we are grateful for their support of the YCE Multiplex Project,” said Kevin Zahara, Mayor of Edson. “This investment will help us shape the facility visually and functionally and ensure it remains a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can gather not only for recreation but also for cultural events, local celebrations and community activities for years to come.”
“This is great news for our community,” said Wade Williams, Mayor of Yellowhead County. “The Multiplex will be a great place for everyone, whether you’re here for sports, events, or just to connect with friends. We really appreciate Weyerhaueser’s contribution. It’s great to see local businesses stepping up to support local projects.”
In both rural and urban settings, the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports hundreds of important organizations and programs in the communities where they operate with funding, time, expertise and resources. The company has given nearly $275,000 to the Edson community through grants from the Giving Fund since 2021.
