Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jasper’s residents and business owners. Yellowhead County expresses our deepest sympathy for them and a heartfelt acknowledgement to all the first responders who are working tirelessly throughout this incident.
Yellowhead County is assisting the Municipality of Jasper and will continue to support the community through this trying time. Yellowhead County mobilized firefighting resources and crews to support on-scene structural firefighters and emergency personnel overnight and into today.
The Yellowhead Regional Emergency Communications Centre is also currently taking 911 calls for Jasper National Park Services.
Yellowhead County will continue to support emergency response crews, residents, and evacuees in any way we can.
We remind everyone to take every precaution to prevent fire starts. Many areas are still very susceptible to wildfire activity, and any new wildfires will put additional strain on firefighting resources and staff. Smoke from wildfires outside the Edson Forest Area and the Yellowhead County Fire Area continues to drift into the Yellowhead County region, affecting the air quality. The Jasper wildfires do not immediately threaten any areas outside Jasper National Park and the Jasper townsite.
We will continue to monitor the situation, and Yellowhead County and Alberta Wildfire will continue to work together to inform residents and industry as we receive updates from Jasper National Park and the Town of Jasper.
Mayor Wade Williams,
Yellowhead County
