Council Highlights September 10,2024

Bylaw 08.24 – Procedure Bylaw

Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw 08.24 This bylaw will allow for Council Meeting Recordings to be made available to the public for viewing for 7 days after the meeting.

Bylaw 10.24 – Committee Bylaw

Council gave second and third reading to bylaw 10.24.   The bylaw provides standardized regulations for all committees and boards

Rise Together: A Story of Community Resilience Update

Council has initiated the “Rise Together: A Story of Community Resilience” project to document the 2023 fire and flood disasters, highlighting Yellowhead County’s strength. Led by Community Services, the project includes creating murals for each hamlet and compiling interviews for a book. A mural unveiling event is set for October 17.

Bylaw 03.24- Municipal Development Plan

Council gave Second and Third Reading of Bylaw 03.24. This updated Municipal Development Plan outlines the County’s long-term land use and development framework. Public engagement sessions took place in throughout the county as well as online for residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback on the proposed changes.

FCSS Social Needs Assessment and Service Delivery Update

Council directed administration to work with the FCSS Advisory Board on a business plan for future services. The plan will focus on preventive social services and will be reviewed by Council once complete.

Bylaw 02.24- Land Use Bylaw 

Council gave second and third readings of Bylaw 02.24. The updated Land Use Bylaw regulates development in the County.

Bylaw 06.24- Amendment of the Edson Urban Fringe IDP

Council gave second and third readings of Bylaw 06.24 to amend the Edson Urban Fringe Intermunicipal Development Plan. The amendment was to facilitate the adoption of an Area Structure Plan.

Bylaw 07.24- Bench Creek Area Structure Plan

Council gave second and third readings of Bylaw 07.24. for the Bench Creek Area Structure Plan.

Update On Disaster Waste from Jasper to WYRWMA Landfill

Council has accepted the report from the West Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority (WYRWMA) regarding the accommodation of disaster waste from the Jasper fire. Following a request from the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) on July 28, 2024, to accept unsorted debris.
