Council Highlights October 8, 2024

Coffee with a Councillor

Council asked for policy 1100.24, Coffee with a Councillor, to be brought back to a later meeting for further discussion. This policy will allow for informal public engagement opportunities for councillors to meet with residents in their communities.

Agricultural Service Board Agricultural Bursary

Council awarded Ross Stanley the Agricultural Services Bursary in the amount of $500. The bursary is for students pursuing post-secondary education in an Agricultural or Environmental related field.

First Reading of Bylaw 11.24

Council gave first reading to Bylaw 11.24, and a public hearing date is set for November 12, 2024. The bylaw allows Yellowhead County to redistrict a portion of NE-19-53-17-W5M from Rural District to Country Residential District.

Marlboro Lagoon and Pipeline Tender

Council awarded the tender for the Marlboro wastewater lagoon and treated wastewater discharge pipeline to Martushev Logging Ltd. in the amount of $6,198,664.30 (excluding GST). Martushev was the lowest bidder, who met all the requirements in the tender proposal.

Community Aggregate Payment (CAP) Levy

Under the Municipal Government Act, a municipality can create a Community Aggregate Payment (CAP) Levy bylaw that lets municipalities charge up to $0.40 for every tonne of sand and gravel extracted in their area. The CAP Levy has been adopted by 40 Alberta municipalities. Council received the CAP Levy report as information.
