Council Highlights March 10, 2026

RCMP Annual Priorities Input Request
Representatives from the three RCMP detachments that service Yellowhead County (Edson, Hinton, and Evansburg) presented to Council and requested input for Policing priorities for the coming year. Priorities identified included crime reduction, traffic control, and community relations.

Road Planning Workshop
Council will be reviewing options pertaining to the development of a long-term road development for Yellowhead County. Items such as enhanced road standards, paving, new road builds, etc. will be considered in the long-term plan. A Road Planning Workshop is scheduled for the spring of 2026 for Council.

Alberta Rural Health Week Proclamation
Council proclaimed May 25-29, 2026 as Alberta Rural Health Week in Yellowhead County. The proclamation recognizes the dedication of rural healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners who support the health and well-being of rural residents.

Fulham School – Additional Letters Received
Additional letters were received from community members after the Fulham Community School presentation at the Governance and Priorities meeting on February 17. Council accepted the letters as information.

Fulham School Financial Support Request
Council postponed the discussion of the $400,000 financial request over three years from the Fulham Community School Council until Grand Yellowhead Public School Division makes a final determination regarding the school’s future. The expected date for the school board’s decision is April 15, 2026.

YCE Multiplex Tender: Mechanical Contract Conversion
As recommended by Clark Builders, Council directed Administration to convert the contract for the supply and installation of the mechanical scope of work for the YCE Multiplex to Goldbar Contractors Inc., in the amount of $11,867,858 (inclusive of bonding; exclusive of GST).

Bylaw 01.26 Repeals Cougar Rock Area Structure Plan
Bylaw 8.01, the Cougar Rock ASP, was prepared exclusively for a development that is no longer in progress. At previous Council meetings, first reading was given to Bylaw 01.26 and a Public Hearing was held. Council for Yellowhead County gave second and third reading to Bylaw 01.26 to repeal Bylaw 8.01.

Tender: Evansburg-Wildwood Area Gravel Supply
Council awarded the Evansburg-Wildwood Area Gravel Supply Tender (2026-2029) to McLeod Valley Sand & Gravel in the amount of $2,839,290.00.

Tender: West of Edson Area Gravel Supply
Council awarded the West of Edson Area Gravel Supply Tender (2026-2029) to Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a Division of Colas Western Canada Inc., in the amount of $1,039,350.00.

Tender: Crack Sealing of Local Roads
Council awarded the Crack Sealing of Local Roads Tender (2026-2027) to Federal Sealing Services Ltd. in the amount of $620,316.80.

Tender: Twp Rd 544 Reconstruction
Council awarded the Reconstruction of Township Road 544 Tender, from Range Road 165 to Range Road 162, to Barsi Enterprises Ltd. in the amount of $2,366,651.00 plus GST.

Tender: Range Road 124 Reconstruction
Council awarded the Reconstruction of Range Road 124 Tender, north of Township Road 560 to Barsi Enterprises Ltd. in the amount of $754,068.05 plus GST.

FRIAA FireSmart Program – Marlboro/Millers Lake Mitigation Strategy
Yellowhead County Protective Services provides wildfire prevention, FireSmart work, and education to residents. Several grants have been received towards this work, and recently the County was successful in obtaining a grant to develop a Mitigation Strategy for the area of Marlboro/Millers Lake. Council supported the project and added the FRIAA Grant to the 2026 Final Budget for approval.
