COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS – February 28, 2023

RCMP Reports – Edson and Hinton RCMP Staff Sergeants presented their year-end community policing reports and crime statistics to Council. The Staff Sergeants stated they plan to continue to increase engagement and visibility in the county and presented areas of concern that the detachment will focus on for enforcement. Council shared several ideas and suggestions for the local RCMP’s policing priorities for the upcoming year.

Elk River Grader Contract – The five-year (2023-2027) contract for the Elk River Road Grader Beat for the supply and operation of a motor grader was awarded to McPhee Construction Ltd. for an average hourly rate of $189/hour. The submission was the lowest price that met all the requirements in the tender proposal.

Dust Control Contract – Council awarded the three-year Dust Control Program (2023-2025) contract to Tiger Calcium Services Inc. for the supply, delivery & application of Liquid Calcium Chloride at the rate of $0.23/L (2023&2024) and $0.24/L (2025). The submission was the lowest price that met all the requirements in the tender proposal.

Non-Profit Property Assessment Exemptions – Council granted non-profit taxation exemption for a three-year period (2023-2025) to the: Edson Fish & Game Association; Niton Memorial Historical Society; Pembina Golf Course; Rangeton Recreation Society; Rosevear Pioneer Community Club; Surprise Lake Society; West Central Airshed Society; Wildwood & District Agriculture Society; and the Wildwood & District Rod & Gun Club.

Recycling Contract – During the February 21, 2023 Governance and Priorities meeting, Council passed a motion for Yellowhead County administration to work with the Town of Edson to explore options for tendering the recycling contract for recycling services for Yellowhead County residents.
