Public Hearing for Undeveloped Laneway Closure
A Public Hearing was held for Bylaw 13.24 to consider an undeveloped laneway closure located between two parcels of property owned by the applicant. Council was presented with input from the applicants. The bylaw will be forwarded to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors for review before being returned to Council for 2nd and 3rd readings.
Public Hearing for Closure of Undeveloped Road
A Public Hearing was held for Bylaw 14.24 to consider an undeveloped road closure within Plan5050MC that’s next to a current roadway and a property owned by the applicant. Council received a letter of support from the applicant. The bylaw will be forwarded to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors for review before being returned to Council for 2nd and 3rd readings.
RCMP Detachment Annual Priorities
Representatives from the three local detachments for Yellowhead County (S/Sgt Delisle – Edson; S/Sgt Fragomeni – Hinton; Sgt Sutherland – Evansburg) presented Council with their 2024/2025 regional crime statistics, as well as their priorities for the current year. They requested input from Council for their policing priorities for the upcoming year.
Healthcare Professionals Attraction & Retention
Council voted to contribute $10,000 towards the Edson Attraction and Retention Committee (ARC) for marketing and advertising to attract new healthcare workers within the region. Council also voted to have a council member attend a rural physician conference in Winnipeg with other members of ARC.
Cardinal River and Grave Flats Road Maintenance
Council passed an Amendment to Policy 3200.03 for the continued snow removal on Cardinal River Road from Highway 40 to NE-27-44-20-W5 between November 1 and March 13 annually. This amendment would align with current practices to ensure snow removal continues in this area during the winter months.
Assessment Review Board Appointees
Members of the ARB (Assessment Review Board) were appointed by Council for a three-year term from 2025-2027 as stipulated by Bylaw 15.22. Six members of the public were appointed as panellists, as well as the ARB Chairperson and the ARB Clerk.
Land Acquisition
Council approved a motion for administration to proceed as discussed by Council regarding a land acquisition and forward the expenditure to the Final 2025 Budget deliberation.
