Back to School Safety Tips

Read on for safety tips for the children and youth in our communities during this back-to-school season.

Photo Posting Safety

Edson RCMP Remind Parents to Use Caution When Sharing Back-to-School Photos Online
As the new school year approaches, the Edson RCMP would like to remind parents and guardians to exercise caution when posting back to school photos of their children on social media.
Many popular “first day of school” posters include details such as a child’s full name, age, school, teacher’s name, grade, and even favourite activities. While these posters may be fun keepsakes for home, sharing them online can put children at risk. Personal information of this nature could be exploited by individuals seeking to gain a child’s trust by pretending to know them, thereby increasing the risk of luring.
The Edson RCMP encourages parents to carefully review what information is visible in photos before posting online. Simple steps, such as omitting sensitive details or limiting posts to trusted friends and family can help reduce risk while still allowing families to celebrate milestones.
The Edson RCMP wishes all students, parents, and educators a safe, happy, and successful school year.

Driver Safety: School Busses

It’s Back to School time, with many students in the area returning to school over the coming weeks.
Yellowhead County wishes to remind residents to slow down and be mindful of school buses and children in school zones. Remember: DO NOT PASS a school bus with flashing red lights.
Be alert and drive with caution when approaching a school bus. Be prepared to stop and leave children room to get on and off the bus safely.
