Yellowhead County is located in West Central Alberta, with its eastern boundary about 90 kilometres west of Edmonton and its western edge at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. It is a predominately rural region with two urban service centers (Hinton and Edson), 10 hamlets and many country residential subdivisions throughout the region.
The active outdoors person has plenty of opportunities for touring, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATVing, white water rafting, caving, guiding or skiing – as well as taking part in community festivals and events. You can camp in one of seven County campgrounds, or our numerous Provincial Parks or Wildland Parks where swimming, boating, and some of the best fishing in the province abound. There is also a multitude of private campgrounds in the County.
Yellowhead County is becoming a seasonal vacation destination with many urban dwellers purchasing their vacation homes to take advantage of the river and mountain vistas. Yellowhead County is now a Partner in the Forest Recreation Management Association.
