The course will be held at the Wildwood Community Hall on Thursday November 6th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. \nA passive solar greenhouse is a great addition to a garden to extend the season or grow all year! DESCRIPTION:Have a safe and happy Halloween from all of us at Yellowhead County!  \nWe have some safety tips for everyone as there will be many people out and about this evening. We encourage all parents to teach Halloween Safety to their children! \nTrick-or-Treating Tips: \n\nChildren should stay on sidewalks—walking\, not running\, and definitely no slithering or sneaking in the street!\nPlan a trick-or-treat route ahead of time and ensure kids follow one side of the street before crossing to the other.\nCross the street only at intersections or crosswalks. Remind kids to look both ways for cars\, trucks\, and the occasional low-flying broomstick.\nCarry a flashlight to help see and be seen by others.\nSet boundaries for where kids can go\, and a time they should return home if they are trick-or-treating without an adult. (Younger children should always be accompanied by an adult).\n\nCostume Safety: \n\nChoose light-coloured\, flame-resistant costumes with reflective strips so kids are easily seen at night.\nMake sure costumes are short enough to prevent tripping.\nAdd reflective tape to bikes\, skateboards\, and brooms for better visibility.\nAvoid costumes with masks or items that obstruct vision—opt for face paint instead.\nSteer clear of open flames and candles as costumes can be highly flammable.\n\nCandy Safety: \n\nAccept treats at the door only—never enter strangers’ homes or cars.\nRemind children not to eat candy until it’s inspected by an adult at home. Avoid consuming treats if the packaging is already opened.\nBe mindful of small\, hard candies that could pose a choking hazard to younger kids.\n\nDriver Safety: \n\nSLOW DOWN especially in residential areas. Be extra cautious at driveways and alleyways.\nBe extra prepared for pedestrians\, especially children\, who may be distracted.\nUse your headlights – increase your visibility to pedestrians. If you stop\, turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers.\nPut your phone away – eliminate your own distractions and focus on the road!\nBe patient when pulling out of driveways and avoid passing stopped vehicles\, as children may be getting in or out.\nAs always\, stay sober if driving\, and use a taxi or designated driver if you plan to consume alcohol.\n\nWe hope everyone has a great Halloween! Interested participants can still register to attend the Bat Presentation.\nLearn all about bats while decorating a bat house!Join Yellowhead County’s Agricultural Services during bat week to learn about the benefits of bats – your friendly neighbourhood insectivores! This workshop includes painting and decorating a prebuilt bat house and accompanying presentation with Lisa Wilkinson\, the provincial bat specialist\, teaching us all about bats.The workshop will take place on October 27th 2025 from 5:30pm-8:00pm at the Wildwood Yellowhead County Office. All supplies for painting and decorating the bat houses will be provided.Option 1 SOLD OUT: For $35 you can purchase a prebuilt bat house that you decorate during the workshop and then take home to hang up.Option 2: For $5 you can participate by decorating a community bat house that will be hung up at a Yellowhead County campground or parks space after the event. (You do not get to take this one home)All decorating supplies\, snacks and refreshments\, and the informative bat talk are included are included in both optionsIf choosing option 1 please note these are 4 chamber bat houses and are quite large. They will only work on a rural property and are not intended to be hung up in towns or hamlets.Please register early as the number of kits available is limited.
