Intro to Ice Fishing

You’re not going to want to miss this Yellowhead County Kids Can Catch event: Intro to Ice Fishing!

Held at Bear Lake, this FREE fishing event is for EVERYONE! Bring your own fishing rods if you have one. We have some to borrow for those who need.

When: Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 1 PM to 3 PM
Where: Yellowhead County Bear Lake Campground (Township Road 551A, 30km northeast of Edson on Highway 748)
Parking: Please park in one of the parking lots on the left hand side and walk onto the ice, look for the Yellowhead County tent!

You can register for this great event at https://www.ab-conservation.com/events/kids-can-catch/kids-can-catch-yellowhead-county/

Fishing licenses are not required on the Family Day weekend but Alberta Sportfishing Regulations still apply to this event. Visit www.mywildalberta.com for more information.

This is a great opportunity to introduce people of all ages to ice fishing, with experienced anglers on site. Gear will be available to borrow, holes will be drilled, tents will be available to try, and there will be a fish-cleaning demonstration. Guidance will be available for setting up rods, safe fish handling, regulation education, and safe release of fish.

Hot chocolate and coffee will be provided, and there will be some fun giveaways, too (while supplies last)! No cost to attend, but please register to help ensure we have adequate supplies.

A signed waiver is required to participate. After you sign in and fill out the waiver, you are good to borrow a rod or check out the other activities.

Please bring your own chair (if desired). You may also wish to bring a toboggan to pull your belongings onto the ice.

Note: Parking on the ice is strongly discouraged for this event, and at your own risk.
