Growing Edible Mushrooms Workshop

Join Yellowhead County’s Agricultural Services and the budding mycologists at Fungi Akuafo on March 22nd 2023, from 7pm-9pm for this two-hour online workshop on cultivating mushrooms in your backyard!

Learn to grow mushrooms to add to your dinners and share with friends while diversifying your garden. We will discuss how to grow wine cap mushrooms in mushroom beds, all the supplies you will need, and how to correctly identify the mushrooms you may grow.

$30 registration fee includes:

  • a link to an introductory video on mushrooms life and cultivation cycle
  • two-hour live workshop via Zoom
  • one bag of wine cap mushroom spawn (ready for pickup in May)
  • access to the recording for three months (so you can refresh yourself in May when you are ready to inoculate your spawn outdoors)

Register by March 15, 2023. Please call Yellowhead County’s Wildwood office to sign up at 1-800-814-3935.

Please note this workshop is being held before your spawn will be ready so that you have time to plan the location of your mushroom bed and source supplies before the busy growing season starts. Your bag of mushroom spawn will then be ready to be picked up in early May. Mushroom spawn is a living fungal culture and the growers at Fungi Akuafo want it to be as fresh and healthy as possible for when you are ready to grow it in the spring. Because of this we cannot provide the spawn before May.
