COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS November 24, 2020

Mask Bylaw – Council voted to postpone a vote on the Face Covering Bylaw until after the provincial government’s announcement scheduled for 4:30 pm on November 24, 2020.

Hamlet Waste Collection – GFL Environmental was awarded a 3-year contract (2021-2023) for residential garbage collection in Wildwood and Evansburg. GFL will be introducing mechanical bin curbside pickup in the hamlets with bins supplied by GFL. The contract amount is $9.75/house each month in 2021; $10.53 for 2022; and $11.37 in 2023. Residents will receive new bins and details prior to the start of the new system.

Municipal Emergency Plan Adopted – Yellowhead County Council adopted the Municipal Emergency Plan (MEP), which guides municipal response and management in Yellowhead County during an emergency. The MEP covers staff’s roles and responsibilities, outside agencies and their functions, the procedure for declaring a State of Local Emergency and other actions required in an emergency.

2020 Tax Write-Off – Council approved the write-off of $877,582.44 in unpaid taxes from the energy industry. This amount is the combined taxes from several companies that have gone through receivership or declared bankruptcy and can no longer be collected by the county.

December Council Meetings – The last meeting of the year will occur on December 8, 2020, when Council will vote on the 2021 Interim Budget. There will be no council meetings on December 15 & 22.

Next meetings: The next scheduled Council meetings are December 8, 2020, and January 12, 2021, at 9:30 AM. The next scheduled Governance & Priorities meeting is January 19, 2021.
