Council Highlights July 28, 2020

Assessment Changes Impact County Revenue – The province is proposing a new method of assessing oil and gas industries in Yellowhead County- a model that could reduce the County’s annual revenue up to a 21% loss (based on 2019 data). For more information and details go to www.yhcounty.ca.River Ridge ASP – A public hearing was held for the proposed amendment change to the Area Structure Plan for the addition of one lot to the River Ridge Subdivision.

Robb ASP – A public hearing was held for a new Robb Area Structure Plan (ASP). The ASP includes action plans for short-term and long-term planning for the hamlet; increases the hamlet boundaries to include County-owned lands, and improves readability of maps and zoning in the ASP document. During the public hearing, Council heard from residents regarding the proposed ASP.

Wildwood Bus Service Ends – Due to operational and budget issues, Council agreed to an end date of August 1, 2020, for the service provided by the Wildwood Legion for the Community Connector Bus and that no capital contribution refunds will be required.

Evansburg Cemetery Bylaw – First reading was given to Bylaw No. 14.20 for the Evansburg Cemetery. The changes in the new Bylaw include various new rules and guidelines for decorations, maintenance, and management.

Declaration of Agricultural Disaster – Council declared a State of Agricultural Disaster for the 2020 season based on high precipitation levels in Yellowhead County and the identification of several types of crops ranked as reaching disaster thresholds.

Significant Emergency Culvert Repairs – Council direct administration to proceed with the emergent erosion/culvert repairs at the estimated cost of $2,687,130 and the required funds be taken from the transportation reserve. The severe and widespread damage was caused by recent significant weather storms resulting in rain and groundwater flooding that exceeded infrastructure capacity.

County Requires Tax Payment – Council denied a request made by Tykewest Limited for tax payment forgiveness in the amount of $69,941.29 after the company requested to the County to not be required to pay their taxes.

AAG Contract Extended – Yellowhead County extended their contract with Accurate Assessment Group (AAG) to 2024. AAG provides the assessment of residential, non-residential and farmland properties along with designated industrial and specialty plant assessment services to Yellowhead County.
