Yellowhead County’s Agricultural Services has teamed up with the Edmonton Area Land Trust (EALT) to bring you a Bird Conservation Workshop complete with a build-your-own Nesting Box Kit.

There will be three types of bird nest boxes to choose from based on the type of property you own, or what species interests you the most. The options will be for Chickadees, Tree Swallows, or Saw-Whet Owls.

Here’s how to take part:

Step One: Decide what type of nesting box you’d like to build. You can view our Guide to Choosing a Nesting Box HERE.

Step Two: Register at www.yhcounty.ca/registration. Pre-registration and payment is required – Registration opens on January 2, 2024 and the deadline to register Jan 17, 2024.

Step Three: Pick up your Nesting Box Kit starting the week of January 22nd. Kits can be picked up from both the Edson and Wildwood Offices. You can build them anytime that works with your schedule!

Step Four: Check out the informational portion of the workshop in an online webinar on January 25th from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Conservation Coordinators for EALT will teach us all about the birds that will use the nest boxes, how to properly maintain them, and bird conservation tips in general.

The cost for this workshop is $15.00 per kit and includes access to the webinar. There is a maximum of 2 kits per family. You can mix or match any of the types of kits you’d like.
